Abstract

A. EXPORTS

The value of Indonesia’s exports in February 2023 reached US$21.40 billion, decreased 4.15 percent compared to exports in January 2023 but increased 4.51 percent compared to February 2022.
Non-oil and gas exports in February 2023 reached US$20.21 billion, decreased 3.00 percent compared to non-oil and gas exports in January 2023 but increased 3.76 percent compared to February 2022.
Cumulatively, Indonesia’s exports during January–February 2023 reached US$43.72 billion, increased 10.28 percent over the same period in 2022. Likewise, non-oil and gas exports reached US$41.05 billion or increased 8.73 percent.
The highest decrease of non-oil and gas exports in February 2023 was mineral fuels commodity, in amount of US$277.0 million or decreased 6.51 percent from January 2023. The highest increase was electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof, in amount of US$141.0 million or increased 10.93 percent.
By industry classification, exports of manufacturing products during period January–February 2023 decreased by 0.26 percent; exports of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries also decreased by 1.95 percent; while exports of mining and others increased by 58.76 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
The main country destinations of non-oil and gas exports in February 2023 were China at US$5.04 billion, United States at US$1.91 billion, and Japan at US$1.74 billion, with the contribution of the three reached 42.99 percent. Meanwhile, exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) amounted to US$3.97 billion and US$1.25 billion, respectively.
According to the province of origin, the Indonesia’s largest exports in January–February 2023 came from Jawa Barat with a value of US$6.00 billion (13.72 percent), followed by Kalimantan Timur at US$5.10 billion (11.67 percent) and Jawa Timur at US$3.83 billion (8.75 percent)

B. IMPORTS

Imports of Indonesia in February 2023 were worth US$15.92 billion, fell by 13.68 percent compared with January 2023, and decreased by 4.32 percent compared with February 2022.
Imports of oil and gas in February 2023 were worth US$2.41 billion, decreased by 17.19 percent compared with January 2023, and decreased by 17.08 percent compared with February 2022.
Imports of non-oil and gas in February 2023 were worth US$13.51 billion, decreased by 13.03 percent compared with January 2023, and fell by 1.63 percent compared with February 2022.
The most significant decrease in imports of non-oil and gas in February 2023 was electrical machinery/equipments and parts thereof which fell by US$355.4 million (15.22 percent). On the contrary, ores, slag, and ash the highest rise with US$111.1 million (249.87 percent) increase.
The largest trading partner countries of non-oil and gas imports in January–February 2023 were China US$9.36 billion (32.22 percent), Japan US$2.77 billion (9.53 percent), and Thailand US$1.79 billion (6.17 percent). Imports of non-oil and gas from ASEAN and EU countries were US$4.99 billion (17.17 percent) and US$2.01 billion (6.91 percent), respectively.
Compared with the same period last year, imports of intermediate goods in January–February 2023 experienced the highest fall with a US$983.5 million (3.69 percent) decrease. On the other hand, imports of consumption and capital goods experienced increases with a US$178.6 million (6.42 percent) and US$317.3 million (5.87 percent) rise, respectively.
Indonesia’s balance of trade in February 2023 experienced a surplus of US$5.48 billion, which mainly affected by a surplus of non-oil and gas of US$6.70 billion. On the other hand, there was a deficit of US$1.22 billion in oil and gas.
